PEATering Out
'PEATering Out' seeks to raise the appreciation, awareness and conservation efforts of our southwest peat landscapes. This new body of work explores the relationships that we all share with the landscapes as it conveys the dimensionality of the natural environment; its layers and its depths.
"As an artist and palaeoecologist, Elizabeth combines her art process with her knowledge of the natural environment. During her research years she has collected a number of peat cores from various locations across the southwest. Using peat to make paint she has added a new dimension to her artworks by infusing the work with peat, microscopic particles and therefore time. Each painting becomes a unique environmental narrative infused with the southwestern Australian peats, 1,000's of years old."
The work was also featured as part of the Museum's 2021 National Science Week program.
