A TALE OF TWO TREES
Petrichor Gallery, WA
DAHL FELLOWSHIP 2023
Elizabeth was a recipient of a Eucalypt Australia Dahl Fellowship 2023 for this exhibition, A Tale of Two Trees – the Red Flowering Gum and the Red Tingle which brings together art, science and conservation. It explores the environmental narrative of two iconic Australian eucalypts through an art and science solo exhibition to raise the profile of the conservation issues surrounding them. Naturally occurring only in the Walpole Wilderness area and adjacent reserves, they, and the ecosystems they support, are under threat from climate change and altered fire regimes. Elizabeth blends her scientific background in paleoecology with her artistic skill to tell the story of these trees and the threats they face.
In the lead up to the exhibition, a symposium was held on National Tree Day in March 2023. Insights gleaned from expert presentations helped shape the research and creative process of the project, as well as build networks and strengthen community collaborations.
This project was made possible by Eucalypt Australia Dahl Fellowship 2023 and exhibited at Petrichor Gallery in 2023. Elements of the exhibition are currently on show as part of Metamorphosis at FORM WA gallery | 17th May - 13th July, 2024. The exhibition will tour to the Collie Art Gallery in 2026.
